Ghent Elementary

This is a reminder that ANY student in grades 3-5 who wants to tryout for volleyball, basketball, or cheerleading MUST attend a CERP training with a parent or guardian. If you were unable to attend CERP during Open House, the last CERP training will be Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 5:30pm here at GES. We will not be holding any more trainings after this. Tryouts for Basketball and Cheerleading begin September 10, and Volleyball tryouts begin September 12.

Join us September 2 at 6pm for an informational meeting about the 3rd-5th grade Social Studies Fair! Students will have the opportunity to earn a FREE test grade and a dance party! Let's show Raleigh County what our students are made of!

Raleigh County Elementary Students who ride the bus will have a new accessory on their backpacks! Bus tags will be mandatory to remain on their backpacks. This helps our bus drivers, especially our substitute bus drivers, know which students should be getting off the bus at which stops, and if they are PK-3rd graders, that they need an adult at their bus stop. Teachers will be filling out the name, grade, and bus number on the tag, but we ask that you fill out the bus stop location. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the GES office or the Transportation office!

Fall Picture Day is September 4!

As with the start of any new school year, please be patient with our bus drivers as they learn their routes and students! It may take longer than usual.

Please keep in mind that we are still under construction, so the building is not perfect, but we're excited to see you!

Don't Forget! Open House is from 3-5 this afternoon! Come meet your teacher and learn about the great things going on at our school!

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond control regarding required coach’s trainings and/or certifications, the elementary sports season has had to be pushed back by a few weeks. Adjusted tryout and game schedules will be released when they become available. Tryouts will tentatively begin September 10th. First games will not begin before September 22nd. Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to a great season!

GES Sports Tryouts Information:
Tryouts are open to 3-5 Grade Students. Students must have their sports physical and CERP training PRIOR to tryouts.

Basketball:
Aug. 26 (3:40-5:00) in the Gym
Aug. 27 (5:00-6:30) in the Gym

Volleyball:
Aug. 26 (5:00-6:30) in the Gym

Cheerleading:
Aug. 26 (5:00-6:30) in Room 7
Aug. 27 (5:00-6:30) in Room 7

As many of you know, we are getting all new floors in the building this summer, which we are very excited to have! As it stands right now, it does not seem like we will be ready to have people in the building for CERP Training on August 11, so we are going to postpone that one for now. If we can figure out another evening to fit it in, we will send notice; otherwise, we will have CERP training multiple times during Open House on August 25 from 3-5.

IMPORTANT SPORTS INFORMATION FOR GES!
CERP Training (with a parent) and a Sports Physical are MANDATORY for participation in try-outs.
CERP Training must be completed at your home school this year, meaning all potential GES athletes must be trained at GES.

CERP Training Dates:
August 11 at 5:30pm
August 25 During Open House from 3-5pm (several sessions)

We are still cleaning up and waiting on a few volunteers to move their vehicles, so please hold off on parent pick up an extra 5 minutes. 3:15pm!

Field Day is in full swing! The Raleigh County Sheriff's Department also joined up to show off their cruiser and drone to the kids! So, if you see lights flashing, we're still having a blast!
