What is your major concern for the 2025-2026 school year?
Our major concern for this year is our school zone. Our school zone is hazardous and dangerous. THere is a lot of traffic from drivers avoiding tolls; including semi-trucks. The current school zone warning lights are outdated and not very visible to oncoming vehicles. They are not LED, and there is only one blinking light per sign.
What is your plan to correct/address the major concern for the 2025-2026 school year?
Our plan is to place a request to the Department of HIghways to have SCHOOL ZONE painted on the roadway at each end of our school zone and to continue to pursue ECS about updating the current signs and lights.
To support continued growth in academic scores, we will continue with small group instruction, using curriculum supplied by Raleigh County Board of Education and monitoring iReady scores.
Identify what the Board of Education can do to assist your school in providing a high-quality education for your students.
Curriculum - We are grateful that all curriculum supplies and supplements were here for the beginning of school.
Staff Development - Further staff development for split class teachers
Personnel - Our students would benefit from quality Interventionists in both Reading and Math. Our students also benefited from After School Tutoring in all grade levels; not just K-3.
Facilities - We would really like to have a restroom in our Autism classroom. We have many toileting needs in this room. Our teacher and aides must take students down the hallway to toilet train in the common restroom for all grades. Also, the faculty senate has requested a new LED sign to replace the one that is antiquated and mechanically failing.
Identify your school’s biggest accomplishment for the year.
Our greatest accomplishment is the decrease of unexcused absences by around 35% from 2024 to 2025 (1,079 to 698.5)! Also, our parents have noticed the positive attitude of our staff concerning the split classes.
Please feel free to provide any additional information you wish to share with the Board.
We are very thankful for our new tile floors, the paving around the school to widen the leane, and the new cabinets for all classrooms for storage and organization. Our school is an attractive and comfortable place for students and staff to come every day.
